Hi, I'm Sarah. In 2021, I opened the doors to Explore Counseling and Wellness with a simple but deeply held belief — that everyone deserves a warm, accessible place to be heard, supported, and understood.
Starting my own practice was a calling rooted in wanting to show up for people when they need it most. I wanted to create something small and intentional — a space where both client and therapist could feel safe enough to do the real, courageous work of counseling together.
The name Explore felt right, because that's exactly what this journey is. Therapy isn't a straight path — it's an open, curious unfolding. It's about discovering who you are, what you carry, and who you're becoming. I'm here to walk alongside you in that exploration, every step of the way.
I'm so glad you found your way here.
Sarah Hickox, MA, LPC-S, Certified EMDR Therapist
she/her
When I was a young teen, I had a mentor in my life that encouraged me to be brave and face challenges that scared me. Those challenges, I know now, were a part of growing. Now as a wife, mother and therapist, I am passionate about helping women through the complicated times life brings. I aim to bring warmth and humor with a judgment-free space for each individual to breathe and do the hard work of the healing and growing process.
I have experience in adolescent and family crisis intervention through working in higher levels of psychiatric care, as well as training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and trauma treatment. I utilize DBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy to meet each client where they are in their journeys. I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
I received my Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Dallas Baptist University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (License No. 72416) and Texas BEHC board approved supervisor. I am also licensed in Oklahoma and can provide virtual services for clients in these states.
